In conjunction with term one’s theme on my Friends and Community helpers, the children at Kinderland International Preschool @ Vietnam visited the community places around their preschool.

The children posed for a photo at the supermarket.

Exploring their natural environment with their friends.

Before the children set out for their community walk, the teachers briefed them on walking together as a group using the walking rope and to greet the passers-by they would meet along the way.   At the shops, the teachers reminded the children to be gentle when they explored the items on the shelves and crates.

The children held on to the rope walker as they walked to the community places around the preschool.

Look! There are many items to buy from the supermarket.

The teacher introduced the many items they can find at the supermarket and encouraged them to identify the colours, shapes and sizes.  The children were most excited at the snack shelf and shared that their mothers and fathers had bought some of the snacks for them.

The children were fascinated at the food items they saw at the supermarket.

At the grocery shop, the kindergarteners learned how to read the price tags, interact with the cashier and personnel working there. With the pocket money they brought, the children learned how to use the money to purchase items for themselves and respectfully thanked the cashier for giving them the change.

The children bought an item with the pocket money they brought to the shop.

The outdoor walk to the community places around the school had engaged the children with the community helpers and the natural environment around them. Besides promoting their cognitive, physical, social and emotional development, the children also learned about financial literacy, using money to purchase an item and the experience of paying for it too.
