The most important festival of the year in Vietnam is Tet Nguyen Dan also famously known as Tet. It is Sino-Vietnamese for “Feast of the First Morning of the First Day”. It is an occasion for the Vietnamese families, friends and loved ones to reunite. Kinderland International Preschool @ Vietnam was excited to celebrate this special occasion with our parents, children and staff for the very first time on 16 January 2020.

We kicked off our celebrations having children across different levels put up song and dance performances and a short skit on the story of Tet. Parents and children had the opportunity to take part in various activities such as the making of Banh Chung. Banh Chung is a traditional Vietnamese glutinous rice cake which is traditionally eaten during Tet and the painting of ‘Non La’ which is a conical hat or as we commonly call it a straw hat or cone. Tea and traditional candies were also served to parents.

In the spirit of Tet, the school also had a mini donation drive where we sold art products done by our teachers and children. Parents too donated books, clothes and shoes. The proceeds were then donated to a nearby orphanage.

It was such a lovely interactive Tet celebration in our school. The halls were filled with bright colors with children looking fabulous in their beautiful traditional wear. It was wonderful to see the laughter and applause among our parents, staff and children during the celebrations.
